Job Summary

The Counselor position provides mental health services to currently enrolled ULM students through direct intervention, outreach/prevention programming, consultation and training.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide individual, couples, family and group counseling services for personal or academic concerns

Provide crisis intervention and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems and work closely with other mental health and medical professionals on and off campus in the provision of these services

Provide emergency counseling services during non-office hours, as needed

Refer students for specialized treatment and facilitate inpatient psychiatric hospitalization for students who are determined to be a danger to self or others

Provide training and psycho-educational workshops to students and the campus community on issues related to mental health, with some programs occurring in the evening

Provide campus-wide training on the Counseling Center's services, with an emphasis on educating faculty, staff and students on how to make appropriate referrals to the Counseling Center

Fulfill professional obligations including maintaining current licensure/certification through the State of Louisiana and participating in professional development opportunities as required by licensing board

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Social Work. 2. Two to five years of experience in the university, community-based agency, mental health, private practice or social service related environment. 3. State Licensure and Board Certification preferred.
