The Department of Film, Theatre, and Creative Writing seeks a Costume Shop
Manager / Costume Lecturer I for the University of Central Arkansas (UCA)
Theatre academic program and the costume shop manager for the Arkansas
Shakespeare Theatre (AST), a professional summer festival. The successful
applicant will be a collaborative artist committed to student creativity and
success; diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity. The academic program
annual season includes two workshop, two fully realized and two showcase
productions. The Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre will produce two to three works
in the summer season.
This full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure-track position has a preferred start
date of May 16, 2022.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
1) Teaching responsibilities include teaching two three-hour course(s) per
semester (production and performance lab hours, stage makeup, costume
construction, or other related course depending upon areas of interest) and
supervising & instructing laboratory students. Course reassigned time may be
available for design work, if desired.
2) The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for all aspects of the work of the
costume shop. These responsibilities and duties include:
- Hiring costume staff and managing the costume shop for UCA Theatre and AST.
-Management, supervision, and instruction of all costume shop staff, including
work study and laboratory students.
-Execution of costume design realization in the areas of patterning,
stitching, cutting, draping, shopping, pulling, dying, altering, and fittings,
along with any craftwork, hair styling, and wigs or makeup work.
-Supervising wardrobe crews.
-Management and maintenance of all costume shop resources, including budgets,
supplies, materials, equipment, calendars, and schedules.
-Setting procedures for and managing costume storage, workshop production
support, as well as costume rentals and loans.
-Excellence in organization and self-motivation.
-Working collaboratively and collegially with all students, faculty, and guest

Required Education and/or Experience
- M.F.A. in Costume Design and Technology, or M.A. in related disciplines
with substantial professional experience may be considered.
- College teaching experience preferred.
