Everett Community College is home to a dynamic, innovative, and student focused Cosmetology Program located in Marysville. The department is seeking to build a pool of energetic instructors interested in teaching part-time or on an as needed in the Cosmetology program. Applicants will be contacted as openings occur.
Responsibilities include preparing and teaching cosmetology, manicuring, barbering and esthetic courses and related courses.
The successful candidate will possess a combination of technical and professional experiences that demonstrate the ability to: impart excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of cosmetology to a wide range of students from novice to advanced; adapt to a variety of teaching situations including a wide range of student preparedness; and successfully interact with supervisors and staff as part of an educational team.
The position may require the instructor to teach in a clinical setting, providing a safe learning environment for the salon guests when receiving their service.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, or three years recent salon experience and one year teaching experience. - Current Washington State Cosmetology Operator's license and Instructor's license in Cosmetology. - Demonstrated knowledge of current methods in the cosmetology field. - Demonstrated ability to conduct and supervise all aspects of the salon operation. -Competent in using technology when teaching. Technology may or may not include the use of iPads, internet, social media and Canvas. - Demonstrated experience, and/or classroom strategies for, effectively instructing students and working with staff from various cultures, racial heritages, ethnicities, ages, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, classes, and religions. - Vocational educators in WA state must remain certified throughout their teaching career. Standards include, but are not limited to, advanced degrees/credentials, recent work experience beyond the initial learning experience, and competency in the vocational specialty, as well as current 1st Aid/CPR/AED. Full documentation will be required upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or greater - Teaching experience, including career advising and curriculum development in cosmetology at a community college. - Experience in collaborative learning and team teaching. - Advanced knowledge of barbering, manicuring and esthetic services. - Experience in using computer technology in the classroom and in other aspects of the job. - Demonstrated ability to work as a team member, and community involvement with local cosmetology groups and professional organizations. - A philosophy of education appropriate to a learning-centered community college. - Commitment to continued updating of skills and training; Involvement in professional and campus activities. - Administrative, Management, and/or Leadership experience
