Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to promote each student's learning experience
by creating safe, supportive learning environments for academic and personal
success. To promote an inclusive community through student leadership
opportunities, programming, residence hall standards, and supportive learning
environments in the residence halls.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinate, implement and track student-housing room assignments including
any future room/hall changes by opening and closing the housing
application, selecting roommates (non-athletes), arranging and selecting
rooms, connecting roommates and maintaining communication with prospective
and returning students in order efficiently house students.
Decide on how to manage a waitlist for residents who were not initially
assigned their preferred room or housing option.
Conduct all housing procedures, by following protocol, maintaining
accurate records, ensuring consistency to avoid discrepancies and
confusion, including adhering to privacy laws/ regulations and reporting
on them as needed to ensure a well-organized and positive experience for
residents and staff. Housing procedures include but are not limited to:
mail distribution (after business hours), housing applications, hall
openings and closings, orientation, mandatory meetings, work-orders,
safety checks, room inventories, programming, and daily documentations.
Enforce Student Code of Conduct, housing guidelines, address student
conduct issues, disciplinary actions for minor residence hall violations,
conduct room searches when instructed to, mediate interpersonal and inter-
group conflict while fostering skill development and moral decision-making
through the appropriate Residence Life procedure in order to maintain a
safe and respectful living environment.
Advise and recruit for a student organization, offer avenues for personal
growth, leadership and skill development, program planning, institutional
knowledge, offer guidance, conflict resolution, and budget oversight in
order to fulfill various student needs, enhance the holistic college
experience and provide valuable opportunities for students.
Coordinate, track, evaluate and report on the delivery of RA programs and
activities that provide a supportive environment and fosters the
development, wellness, learning and success of the residential community
(including but not limited to academic, interpersonal, and multicultural
educational programs). Monitor expenditures of the Residence Life
(institutional) programming budget administered by the Manager.
Enforce safety and security measures, visitor and building access control,
and support emergency drills and exercises in cooperation with Campus
Safety.
Manage and participate in an on-call rotation throughout the calendar year
to respond and report incidents and emergencies, as they occur.
Collaborate with Custodial, ITS and Maintenance staff to sustain and
improve residence hall facilities as well as dining services to improve
the resident experience; such as but not limited to submitting maintenance
and ITS requests and ensure work orders are completed in a timely manner.
Recruitment, selection, training, supervision, evaluation and termination
of Resident Assistants, work study employees and Bonner Hall front desk
attendants.
Conduct weekly RA Team meetings to resolve any upcoming residence life
events or activities, schedule conflicts, procedures, safety concerns,
work orders, programming and needs of the residents and residence halls.
Provide and facilitate ongoing guidance, advisement and skill development
for Resident Assistants through biweekly one-on-one meetings with each RA
in order to create a supportive and productive environment that benefits
both the RA and residents they serve.
Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on
the needs of the department and the institution.
Required Education
Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate
Required Skills & Abilities
Familiarity with the institution's policies and regulations regarding
residence hall living, safety, conduct, and procedures.
Knowledge of emergency protocols and procedures, as well as the ability to
handle crisis situations effectively.
Techniques for de-escalating conflicts, mediating disputes, and promoting
a harmonious living environment.
Effective communication strategies for conveying information, providing
updates, and addressing concerns with both residents, staff and parents.
Ability to lead and motivate a team of resident assistants (RAs) or
staff members, while also providing guidance and support.
Skill in identifying issues and finding creative solutions to challenges
that arise in a residential environment.
Creating an atmosphere where residents feel comfortable approaching you
with questions, concerns, or feedback.
Modeling the behavior and values expected of residents, setting a positive
example.
Effective allocation of time and resources to manage various
responsibilities, including administrative tasks, programming, and
interactions.
