The Coordinator of Student Activities & Involvement supervises and coordinates the university's student activities, traditional campus events (Welcome Week, Homecoming, Spring Bling Fling, etc.). This position assists with developing opportunities to engage students outside the classroom to promote active participation, administrative functions include long-range planning and goal- setting, works with budgets, maintains financial and historical records, and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Engagement.

This position also develops the student organization's culture and infrastructure and must maintain current knowledge of student organizations, student government, and social fraternities and sororities. This position oversees the development and assessment for the department and must have successful experience working with and supporting diverse populations. Student Engagement includes programs, movies, student organizations, leadership development, and major campus events not limited to Welcome Week, Homecoming, Family & Friends Weekend, and Spring Festival. This role is critical in the university's dedication to motivating students towards lives of significance and worth.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate dynamic palette of campus events and activities, including a robust movie series
  • Oversee and collaborate with campus partners for traditional campus events – including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Family & Friends, Spring Festival, etc.
  • Oversee facilitation of “WarriorsConnect” with posting events, implementation of groups, training, marketing, and data tracking.
  • Facilitate Orientation planning and execution for traditional students.
  • Provide leadership and direction to student organizations, including advising Student Executive Board and Presidents Council, develop leadership training for student leaders and advisors, and drive policy and procedure for student organizations; assist students and advisors in their interactions with campus processes.
  • Spearhead the ongoing development of arts programming as funded by the Auer Grant.
  • Coordinate the production and dissemination of the Warrior Family Association newsletter. Communicate with the First “Mom” of the University, as needed, and other campus constituents to accomplish tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with student housing and other departments to provide educational programming and opportunities for students to support a sense of community.
  • Provide structure to the development of a service program to engage students.
  • Develop intentional and robust engagement of the commuter population.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies and marketing plans for upcoming events based on current student consumption trends utilizing various social media platforms, the student engagement website, and creative marketing to increase student participation and support retention efforts.
  • Supervise and develop a team of student employees and/or volunteers to support events and programming.
  • Coordinates the development of the annual budgets for areas of supervision and uses learning outcomes to develop program goals for area of supervision. This position makes significant recommendations concerning operational budgets.
  • Remains competent and current though self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses.
  • Supports the programming and training initiatives of the Office of Student Engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred. A degree with an emphasis in event management, college student personnel, student affairs, or other related area is preferred.
  • Requires effective organizational, management, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. A working knowledge of financial operations is preferred.
  • Experience

  • Two years of experience working in student activities is preferred; preference will be given to candidates having experience with direct administrative responsibilities in student activities and campus events.
  • Working Conditions

    Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work or athletic environments. Evening and weekend hours are expected in support of student events/programs. Some lifting (10-20 lbs) is periodically necessary to assist event setup and teardown.
