Online applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant General Paediatrician at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This is a one year, fixed-term locum appointment to cover maternity leave. The successful applicant will have completed specialty training in paediatrics. No particular subspecialty interest is desirable for this post.

In addition, the Trust provides tertiary regional services in Allergy, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Clinical Genetics, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastro-enterology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases & Immunology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Respiratory Paediatrics, Rheumatology, Surgery and Urology. The total tertiary population serviced by Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust is approximately 2.8 million.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesWHAT YOU'LL DO
The post holder will join a team of 12 general paediatricians. They will contribute to the provision of the General Paediatric group job plan which provides Consultant of the Week cover to all general paediatric in-patients, outpatients (both routine and urgent) and on-call. Individual consultants within general paediatrics have slightly varying job plans depending on their own particular interests The Paediatric High Dependency Unit is run by general paediatricians.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking to appoint a well-motivated individual with paediatric experience. The department has a strong ethos in education and research and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this activity. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their competence to communicate in spoken and written English. Applicants should have a CCT or be on the GMC's Specialist Register. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
