Job Description

Research and design IT hardware and network solutions to support ATAS research projects. Project IT infrastructure research involves familiarity with government RMF requirements and documentation to set up classified AIS project networks and systems. The researcher collaborates in overall system design with project systems engineers and tasks leaders to develop designs that meet project requirements.

Job Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Research and design IT hardware, network, and software solutions to meet the requirements of ATAS research projects. Work closely with ATAS research projects to assess their needs and develop tailored solutions. Provide technical expertise to research projects as needed.
  • Present designs to sponsors during project reviews, answer project sponsors' questions related to IT and network designs.
  • Research, develop, and maintain secure IT solutions for sensitive project needs including classified and unclassified networks.
  • Develop and implement methods of periodically assessing and protecting ATAS AIS secure networks as required by the project and RSD.
  • Write and maintain documentation to facilitate the use and support of systems and resources by project users to meet project documentation requirements.
  • Interact with users and project personnel as required, and coordinate with other ATAS IT staff.
  • Provide unit-level support in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of computer systems, networks, and applications.

    Education & Length of Experience

    Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Required Minimum Qualifications

    • Experience with Windows 10 and Windows Server • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise or Ubuntu

    Consideration for the Rank of Researcher II will be given to those in possession of a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study and 10+ years experience in the following:

    • Experience with Windows 10 and Windows Server • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise or Ubuntu

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience with MS System Center / Configuration Manager (SCCM), Active Directory
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure cloud services
  • Experience with container platforms such as Docker, Podman, Kubernetes
  • Experience with Tomcat / Apache / IIS
  • Experience with authoring Ansible playbooks in a Linux environment
  • Experience with VMware
  • Scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems
  • Experience maintaining DoD or other secure computer systems.
  • Experience with RMF AIS requirements for DoD projects
  • U.S. Citizenship Requirements

    Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

    Clearance Type Required

    Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
