    Title : COMPETITION FOR GRANTING ONE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP - PTDC/BTM- MAT/31470/2017- 5/2022

    A tender is open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship(s) within the scope of the R&D project (iSkin2: improve skin regeneration by improving the performance of Skin2 skin substitute”, ref. PTDC/BTM-MAT/31470/2017, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P./MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC) and by the Regional Operational Program of Lisbon, in the FEFER component, under the following conditions:

  • Biomedical Engineering/ Cell and Tissue Engineering

  • Recipients profile/category:
  • Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field. Candidates holding a Master's degree must be enrolled in a doctorate or in a course that does not lead to an academic degree as part of an educational project of a Higher Education Institution. The documents proving this situation must be presented, at the latest, up to the stage of contracting the grant, before that they may be replaced by a declaration of honor.

    Preferred factors:

    Preference will be given to candidates with training and research experience in Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering.

  • Work Plan:
  • The work to be carried out within the scope of this grant consists of the in vitro evaluation of the Skin2 skin substitute. To this end, cells extracted from the dermis and adipose tissue will be seeded on dermal substrates and the production of extracellular matrix, the organization of the basement membrane and the development of the epidermal layer will be evaluated as a function of the various culture conditions to be tested.

  • Workplace:
  • The work will be carried out at the GREAT laboratory (Tissue Engineering Group) of the Physics Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific supervision of Professor Jorge Carvalho Silva, the contracting entity being NOVA.id.FCT – FCT's Association for Innovation and Development.

  • Fellowship duration:
  • The scholarship will last for 4 months (scheduled to start in March 2022).

  • Monthly maintenance allowance amount:
  • The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1,104.64, based on the table of values ​​of the scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment being made monthly by bank transfer.

  • Selection criteria:
  • The selection methods to be used will be as follows:

    The selection process for the candidate to be hired is carried out in two stages. The first phase consists of a curriculum evaluation according to the criteria and respective valuation indicated below:

    Criterion 1 - Academic training and classification (50%) - Grade from 1 to 20

    Criterion 2 - Knowledge and experience in the processing and characterization of biomaterials for applications in tissue engineering and animal cell culture (30%) - Grade from 1 to 20

    Criterion 3 - Other curricular components, namely experience in writing and presenting scientific papers and fluency in English (20%) - Grade from 1 to 20

    Candidates ranked in the first 3 places in the first phase will pass to the second phase, which consists of an interview, provided they have obtained a classification above 70% in the first phase. The final ranking will be based on a valuation of 40% for the interview and 60% for the curriculum evaluation.

  • Form of advertising/notification of results:
  • The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

    After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or a hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
