  • A tender is open for the attribution of one Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D project MAR2PROTECT (Ref. 101082048), funded by international funds through European Commission, under the following conditions:

    1. Scientific Area:

    Biotechnology / Biological Engineering

    2. Work Plan:

    The Research Fellow will carry out research activities aiming to promote de biodegradation of micropollutants from treated wastewater before its use in managed aquifer recharge (MAR). The main activities include the start-up and operation of sequencing bath reactors (SBR) with aerobic granular sludge (AGS) technology for the biodegradation of selected micropollutants under different experimental scenarios; analytical monitoring of the bioreactors; treatment, discussion, presentation and dissemination of the results. The Research Fellow shall fully devote the whole of his/her professional activity to NOVA.id.FCT, on an exclusive basis.

    3. Applicable legislation and regulations:

    Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of August 27 (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellow) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of October 29, by Law No. 12 /2013 of 29 January, by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation of Research Grants of NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. in force (https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt);

    4. Workplace:

    The work will be carried out at the BIOENG Group from UCIBIO Research Unit, Department of Chemistry, Nova School of Science and Technology, FCT-NOVA under the scientific supervision of Doctor Nídia Lourenço and Professor Maria A. Reis. The contracting entity is NOVA.id.FCT - Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.

    5. Fellowship duration:

    The fellowship will have a duration of twelve months, starting in January 2023, with the possibility of renewal up to the end of the project and in accordance with the provisions of Regulation of Research Fellowships from the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P (as stated and available at: https:// www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt).

    Applications must be formalized by sending the following documents in a single PDF file:

    i) Motivation letter;

    ii) Reference letter(s);

    iii) Detailed Curriculum Vitae;

    iv) Certificate of academic degrees and qualifications (at application stage a non-official document may be presented, which in case of selection will be replaced by the official document).

    v) The selected candidate should be enrolled in a training course or doctoral program or be eligible to enroll in them, having only to prove enrollment in the contracting phase.

    In case of foreign academic degrees, and to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to applicants with national and foreign academic degrees, it is mandatory to submit the recognition of such degrees and the conversion of the respective final grade to the Portuguese grading scale.

    In the case of candidates with a master's degree who are enrolled in a course that does not confer an academic degree, the scholarship can only be awarded if the candidate does not exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including the renewals provided for in this notice, an accumulated period of two years, consecutive or interpolated, in this type of scholarship. This admissibility condition must be proved in the Curriculum Vitae.

    Benefits

    Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

    The grant is €1144,64, with reference to the table of values of grants awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, payment being made monthly by bank transfer.

The applicant must be enrolled or enroll in a Doctorate Program or in a non- academic degree Course integrated in the educational project of a Higher Education Institution; if the applicant is not yet enrolled, she/he must meet the requirements to enroll in one of these options; enrolment will only be mandatory and proof necessary at the moment of scholarship contracting.

    Preferred factors:

    i) experience in bioreactor operation, ii) experience in biological wastewater treatment, iii) experience in aerobic granular sludge technology, iv) motivation for research, v) good command of the English language, vi) interest in pursuing Doctoral studies.

    Selection process

    Selection criteria:

    The selection methods to be used and the respective weighting will be as follows:

    a. Curricular evaluation (grade from 1 to 20) 50% weighting;

    b. Experience in the research area (grade from 1 to 20) 50% weighting.

    The jury may resort to conducting interviews to select the three best-ranked candidates. In case the jury conducts interviews, the selection methods change, becoming the following:

    a. Curriculum evaluation and research experience (score from 1 to 20) 50% weighting;

    b. Interview (score from 1 to 20) 50% weighting.

    All applications will be evaluated on a scale from 0 to 20 points. Candidates who do not obtain a minimum score of 15 points, as a result of the jury's evaluation according to the selection criteria, will not be selected.

    The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.
