Reading Lab and Writing Lab. The Communications Center is designed to assist
students and staff to improve reading and writing ability.

Job Description
The position monitors and coordinates the activities of and provides
support and assistance to assigned laboratories to enable effective and
safe lab operations.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in English, Reading, Writing or related field and
Three years of prior-related work experience.
Experience tutoring in writing intensive field/s, and experience
supervising staff — particularly college students.
Supplemental Job Information
This position:
Supervises the Communications Center which is comprised of the Reading Lab
and Writing Lab.
The Communications Center is designed to assist students and staff to
improve reading and writing ability.
Provides daily leadership and supervises the Communications Center,
including scheduling. Also assists in interviewing and recommending new
hires.
Trains new staff and conducts regular staff evaluations, meetings, and
trainings.
Prepares weekly reports on student use of the Communications Center.
Evaluates usage statistics and makes recommendations for improved
performance of the Center.
Collaborates closely with the Bilingual Services Assistant to make the
Communications Center a welcoming and helpful space for ESL and ELL
students.
Assists in the monitoring and implementation of the campus retention
system.
Develops resources (such as workshops and handouts) on academic and non-
formal education topics that contribute to student success in writing.
Acts as a liaison between faculty to ensure appropriate and effective
Communications Center support.
Works closely with all members of the Academic Success Center team to
ensure quality experiences and support for students.
Tutors students as needed.
