Clinical Tutor – Psychiatry, Ballinasloe Medical Academy, Fixed Term, Part-
Time (0.25FTE), Contract Type A
The School of Medicine at NUI Galway is looking for suitably qualified and
experienced candidate for an appointment in the Ballinasloe Medical Academy as
Clinical Tutor Fixed Term in Psychiatry (0.25FTE).
The post holder will undertake undergraduate clinical teaching, examination
and participate in research activities affiliated with NUI Galway, and
research in psychiatry at Donegal Medical Academy.
The post holder will be 0.25 FTE employee of the National University of
Ireland, Galway and will be appointed at the appropriate rate on the clinical
tutor pay scales. They will be a registered medical practitioner. A higher
specialist and a teaching qualification are desirable.
The post holder will have completed basic specialist training in psychiatry or
general practice and have passed or be close to passing the MRCPsych or
equivalent. They will have broad clinical and teaching experience, together
with excellent organisational and communication skills.
The post holder will play an important role in the undergraduate medical
teaching programme of NUI, Galway at the Ballinasloe Medical Academy. They
will work closely with similar postholders in the disciplines of Paediatrics,
Obstetrics & Gynaecology and General Practice as well as with clinical
academic colleagues at NUI Galway to provide co-ordinated development and
delivery of specialist clinical education in the newly revised undergraduate
They will ideally have some research and clinical teaching experience. Support
will be available, as appropriate, to aid in the development of specialist
educational skills. A commitment to quality in teaching will be sought and an
outline understanding of medical education theory and practice is essential.
They will need to be able to work with colleagues from diverse disciplines.

Appointments will be made on the Clinical Tutor 1 salary scale: €58,567 –
€68,968 per annum pro rata or Clinical Tutor 2: €70,533 - €86,375 per annum
The relevant salary scale will be determined based on candidate's experience.
This appointment will be made on Clinical tutor scale in line with current
Government pay policy. (For pre 1995 public sector entrants in Ireland, the D
class Salary rates will apply)
