The Office of Clinical Translational Research (OCTR) was founded in 1998 to
facilitate the breast cancer research efforts of Dr. Lisa Carey, MD. Since its
inception, the office has expanded to include the clinical research efforts of
Dr Claire Dees, MD; Dr. Hyman Muss, MD; Dr. Milowski, MD; and is operated by a
staff of more than 10 clinical research professionals. Although the OCTR
primarily manages correlative breast cancer research studies, it also provides
services and support to investigators from other clinical concentrations.

The purpose of this position in the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is
to facilitate and advance a functional precision diagnostic platform
(oncology) toward a clinical feasibility trial including subject and data
management, according to federal regulations, Good Clinical Practice, and
local and institutional policies. These responsibilities relate to the mission
of the UNC/LCCC Clinical Trials Office by maintaining the quality of research
and by addressing patient safety and regulatory compliance which impact
research quality and safeguard institutional integrity. This position will be
fully dedicated to (1) facilitating and coordinating patient tumor
acquisition; (2) managing a dedicated REDCap database for our clinical cases
and acting as an honest broker for patient data deidentification; (3)
leading the writing of documents for tissue and/or data transfer between our
team at UNC and our collaborators at other institutions; and (4) Promoting
and supporting the development of a clinical feasibility trial.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year
of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and
experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Excellent communication skills as well as the ability to effectively interact
with numerous and diverse populations is essential. Extensive knowledge and
experience with Microsoft Access and Excel and working knowledge with
Microsoft Office. The individual must be comfortable interacting with
terminally ill patients and their families.
Two years of research/analysis is preferred. Experience or familiarity with
medical records, database infrastructure, and biomedical human research
policies is highly desirable. Experience consenting patients to research
studies and/or patient interaction highly desirable. Prior experience with
translational science projects including standard operating procedures for
tissue acquisition and procurement, material/data transfer agreement forms,
clinical trial documents including consent forms, and data extraction in the
form of completion of case report forms and/or providing data for flow sheets
or information databases and prior experience with database will be useful.
Willingness and/or experience in technical writing, data entry, and keyboard
skills will be very useful. Experience with medical terminology or a
willingness to learn this vocabulary is highly desirable. Experience in grant
and manuscript writing preferred.
