Full-time, Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

You will join the pioneering team of Professors Quenby and Brosens at Warwick Medical School, Division of Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Research Unit and Tommy's National Centre for Miscarriage Research as a Clinical Research Fellow.

The Biomedical Research Unit and Tommys Centre have been established as a partnership between University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and the University of Warwick.

You will be expected to support the BIGBABY trial.

You will have a medical degree and achieved GMC/PMETB Foundation level competence (or equivalent.) You will also have experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at ST1/2 or equivalent.

There will be an opportunity to undertake an MD/PhD degree.

Job Description

Job purpose

You will be expected to help recruit significant numbers of women to BIGBABY trial including liaising with other sites and help with other portfolio clinical trials, providing clinical care to women who have been recruited to trials. To receive training in clinical research, trial recruitment. There is an opportunity to undertake an RCOG advanced professional module (APM) in clinical research, entry criteria to sub-specialist training.

Duties and responsibilities

a. Recruit women into portfolio trials.

b. To gain knowledge of relevant research protocols to ensure the safe and accurate conduct and recording of studies.

c. Undertake GCP training and maintain compliance with this.

d. Undertake administrative duties involved in clinical trials.

e. Work closely with the team of research midwives.

f. Recruit women into early pregnancy and obstetric trials including; CERM, BigBaby, TommysNet.

g. Provide clinical care for women who have been recruited to trials.

h. Keep Professor Quenby informed of the progress of the trials.

i. As the women entered into the trials are high-risk patients you will be required to learn the obstetric skills necessary to provide care for women recruited into clinical trials.

j. Comply with obstetric department compulsory training for junior medical staff.

k. Attend regular research meetings.

l. To demonstrate a commitment to personal continuing professional development

The post is funded by the BIGBABY NIHR trial

It is an opportunity for an individual to be part of a dynamic Research Unit in Reproductive Health that has been established as a partnership between University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust and the University of Warwick. You will join the pioneering team of Professors Quenby and Brosens.

The successful candidate will receive training in clinical research, trial recruitment, early pregnancy, recurrent miscarriage, preterm labour, early pregnancy scanning and cervical length scanning.

This post is suitable for individuals whose career is at a point just before or at any time after joining a Higher Training scheme. Fellows who complete this post during Training may have it recognised as out of programme research (OOPR). You would be expected to have completed part one MRCOG and two years of obstetrics and gynaecology basic training (ST1 and 2).

There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to be part of the junior registrar on call rota and receive appropriate pay; this can be negotiated with the trust separately.

The successful candidate would have the opportunity to register for the RCOG advanced professional (APM) in clinical research module, entry criteria to sub-specialist training.

It is envisaged that the successful candidate will become expert in Randomised controlled trials and management of large for dates pregnancies and gain clinical and research expertise in this area.
