Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey – Rutgers School of Dental
Medicine (RSDM) invites applications for a part-time, non-tenure/clinical
track faculty position in the Departments of Periodontics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Clinical and didactic teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate
• Mentor and guide postgraduate students through the Certificate and Master's
• Occasional lecturing.
• Assure that policies and procedures related to the postgraduate program are
well publicized and properly understood by the students, faculty and staff
within the department.
• Understands and adheres to Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM)
compliance standards as they appear in RSDM Corporate Compliance Policy and
Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy;
• Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and RSDM regulations, laws and
policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified;
• Other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.

Minimum Education and Experience
Qualifications include a DDS/DMD degree from an American or Canadian Dental
School or its equivalent and a specialty Certificate in Periodontics from a
CODA approved postgraduate program in Periodontics. Board Certification by the
American Board of Periodontics is required. Experience in teaching and
research is required. Candidate must be eligible for licensure in New Jersey
or be eligible to be awarded a teaching permit in New Jersey. Opportunity for
intramural faculty practice is available to those eligible for dental
licensure in New Jersey.

• Must possess or be eligible for a New Jersey dental license;
• Periodontics Specialty Certificate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The faculty person will be responsible for didactic and clinical teaching at
the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is New Jersey's only dental
school, encompassing education, patient care and community outreach. It's also
the state's largest oral healthcare provider, treating more than 130,000
patient visits annually at its student clinic in Newark and three sites in
Formerly the New Jersey Dental School, RSDM was established in 1956, as part
of the Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry, which later became the
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). In 2013, UMDNJ
integrated with Rutgers University and the dental school was renamed again.
Known for its intensive clinical programs and close-knit, supportive

Research at the dental school spans clinical studies of dental disease and

drug resistant pathogens and treat cancer and autoimmune disease.
New research laboratories, totaling 25,000 square feet, were added in the fall
RSDM students and faculty perform community service and outreach in Newark and
other ew Jersey municipalities and embark on annual overseas dental missions.
There are two trips to the Dominican Republic: one in the village of La Romana
and another on the border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, where patients
from both nations receive care. Other missions include trips to Bangladesh and
Sri Lanka to treat patients with cleft palates and a summer mission to Native
American reservations, where patients are treated at clinics run by the

field of more than 2,000 applicants for its incoming DMD program. Many
students are from New Jersey and several are among the first generation in
their families to attain a college degree.
