The Clinical Practicum Coordinator & Graduate Faculty is responsible for clinical site and preceptor development and documentation of clinical/practicum experiences for the graduate nursing programs at Rasmussen University. The Clinical Practicum Coordinator & Graduate Faculty helps to source and cultivate clinical sites, preceptors and practicum opportunities in order to provide learning experiences for students that reflect contemporary practice and the unique needs of the particular academic program(s). This individual assists the Dean & Graduate Program Director, Program Chair and other Graduate Faculty to ensure that students are appropriately placed to meet the clinical competencies for given courses and programs. This individual has oversight to ensure that all students meet compliance requirements for the selected clinical sites. Additionally, the Clinical Practicum Coordinator & Graduate Faculty is responsible for student adherence to essential record- keeping functions that substantiate satisfactory completion of the clinical practicum for a given course/program. This role will also serve in a faculty capacity based on the needs of the program(s) ( see applicable Instructor Job Description).

Responsibilities:

Oversight & implementation of clinical education components of graduate Nursing programs – 70%

  • Engages and informs Dean/Graduate Program Director & faculty regarding aspects of the clinical education program and acts as a liaison between the student, the faculty, and the clinical site/preceptor to ensure effective communication and exchange of clinically-related information and evaluation
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships, effectively representing the core values of the
  • Addresses and solves problems of a challenging nature pertaining to programmatic issues, clinical placement, and concerns related to the clinical
  • Assesses potential clinical sites and monitors current clinical sites to assure students are placed in learning environments that meet the needs of the individual program(s) of
  • Identifies new clinical sites as necessary to assure that graduate Nursing students receive the necessary breadth and depth of clinical education
  • Oversees the documentation and record-keeping necessary for the clinical education
  • Maintains and updates the clinical management system to ensure that records are
  • Reviews written agreements for clinical practice agencies to ensure they are current, specify expectations for all parties, and ensure the protection of
  • Oversees the placement of students in clinical sites including ensuring that students meet immunization, background, and any additional site- specific
  • Coordinates with students, faculty and preceptors in the evaluation of students engaged in the clinical education component of the program.
  • Coordinates the processes necessary for ongoing evaluation of clinical sites and
  • Possesses working knowledge of the relevant standards and key elements for clinical education as stipulated by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is aware of the requirements set forth by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

  • Contributes to the didactic elements of the Graduate Nursing programs that are focused on professional development and leadership; may carry a teaching load at the discretion of the Dean & Graduate Program Director (if qualified).
  • Contributes clinical and academic expertise to subject matter in the curriculum
  • Scholarly & Professional Practice Activity – 10%

  • Maintains an ongoing scholarly agenda that meets Rasmussen University and CCNE requirements and/or engages in advanced practice activities that are consistent with the university's published guidelines for graduate faculty.
  • Service – 5%

    The service components associated with the responsibilities of the Clinical Practicum Coordinator are duly recognized. Additional service expectations include ongoing engagement with the broader university and the professional community.

    Reporting Relationships:

    The Clinical Practicum Coordinator & Graduate Faculty, School of Nursing reports to the Dean & Graduate Program Director, School of Nursing. The Clinical Practicum Coordinator & Graduate Nursing Faculty acts as a liaison between the student, the faculty, and the clinical site/preceptor to ensure effective communication and exchange of clinically-related information and evaluation data. This role has no direct reports.

    Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a terminal degree in related field with a MSN degree.
  • Unencumbered RN license in the state of professional practice.
  • Previous experience in the clinical instruction of graduate Nursing students (preference given to at least 3 years' experience). Nurse practitioner program experience is
  • Evidence of contemporary expertise in one or more content areas taught within the Rasmussen graduate Nursing program
  • If required, faculty who work in the practicum setting must adhere to the policies of the hosting institution (e.g., immunizations, CPR, first aid, background checks, etc. may be required).
