Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Public Health Education in the College of Health and Sciences offers professional preparation leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to course work, the health education major is required to complete at least 8 weeks in an approved setting to complete a public health education internship.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Clinical Instructor has primary responsibility for coordinating and evaluating internship and other field based experiences for students in the department. This person will also teach classes, advise students and work with faculty members to assess student's knowledge and skills as a public health education associate.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This role requires demonstrated training, knowledge, higher level competencies, and experience in community health as an area of practice, and/or other related settings. It requires excellent organization, written and oral communication skills. Applicants must show evidence of the ability to transfer knowledge using multiple modalities. Applicants who have had some teaching experience at an institution of higher learning are preferred. Applicants must show evidence of extensive professional networks and activity in public health organizations and associations. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to addressing health disparities, and promoting health equity, social justice and inclusiveness in their work.

In addition to the technical public health knowledge and experiences, applicants must also have the ability to accomplish the following:

  • · Participate in regular faculty meetings
  • · Serve on department, college and university committees
  • · Manage details and problem solve in a higher education environment
  • Lead service learning activities for students
  • Demonstrate service to campus, local, and state communities
  • Minimum Education/Experience

    Master's degree in public health education

    Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation

  • CHES or MCHES preferred
