Department Educational Foundations and Special Education - 23600 Pay Grade Job Category Faculty Job Summary

The Department of Education Foundations and Special Education (EDFN) at East Tennessee State University seeks one full-time non-convertible tenure-track Clinical Instructor for a 9-month, position beginning August 2022, to:

  • Teach on-ground and on-line courses (e.g., residency seminars, introductory special education courses)
  • Supervise field practicum and Residency experiences
  • Assume shared leadership responsibility for field placement coordination
  • Work collaboratively with local school districts to recruit and support students for the SPED dual Enrollment course (i.e., SPED 2300)
  • The Clinical Instructor will travel to schools to conduct observations and some evening teaching may be required. This position is not eligible for tenure. The new faculty will join a department including nationally recognized Special Education faculty who are dedicated to serving regional school systems.

    Other responsibilities for the position include:

  • Supervise, evaluate, and mentor preservice students within practicum and residency experiences (student teaching);
  • Support teacher candidates in the development of the edTPA assessment;
  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to student performance assessment;
  • Supports collaborative relationships between ETSU and local school systems, and mentor teachers;
  • Serves as a liaison between students, mentors, and the Clemmer Educator Preparation Office;
  • Serve as a Mentor and Support to the Special Education Master Clinician;
  • Evaluate and assess student performance in graduate and undergraduate classes that focus on special education;
  • Maintain student records; and
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university professional activities.
  • Assist in preparing for accreditation, recruitment, and serve on a variety of committees as necessary

  • Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in the field of special education or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity and addressing multiculturalism.
  • Documented work in k-12 special education as a teacher of record.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate preferred in the field of Special Education or related field.
  • One year of teaching experience at the college/university level (Related part-time, and graduate assistance experience may be considered).
  • Knowledge of edTPA assessment.
  • Actively participated in the field of special education serving as a (K-12) teacher of record within the last 5 years.
