Position Summary

The Department of Emergency Medicine at The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill seeks a mental health professional with experience working with trauma to provide real-time intervention to patients of all ages who present to the department experiencing physical violence, sexual assault and intimate partner violence. This new member of the Emergency Department team will also engage in short-term follow-up with patients, either via phone or Telemedicine. The ideal candidate will be comfortable providing efficient same-day intervention and assessment, consultative support to teammates in the department and be willing to integrate themselves fully with the UNC Emergency Department. Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in group settings. Additional responsibilities include participating in hospital trauma initiatives including pediatric multidisciplinary trauma conference, adult trauma conference, regional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) meetings, outreach events, and education of providers about trauma-informed care. The schedule is flexible, including a mix of daytime and evening hours. At least two evening shifts are requested.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed or license-eligible social work (LCSW), psychology (LPC/PhD/PsyD) or marriage and family (LMFT) candidates. A background and/or training in trauma-informed care.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants with experience in team-based care models in medical settings and applicants with trauma certification, including certified trauma responder, certified trauma services specialist, certified trauma treatment specialist, or training in trauma-focused CBT are encouraged to apply as well.
