The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, School of Medicine, seeks to hire a full-time (40 hours per week) LCSW
Clinical Instructor faculty member. The LCSW would be based in Raleigh, NC.
The LCSW roles will include Clinical Care Management and Direct Care;
functioning as a core member of a multidisciplinary intellectual and
developmental disabilities clinic in Wake County. The team will be comprised
of an LCSW, doctorate level psychologist, and psychiatrist. The care manager
is responsible for supporting a coordinated approach to care for patients with
intellectual and developmental disabilities and comorbid mental health
Principal duties will include:
· Support and closely coordinate mental health care with the other members of
the team, family/group home, the patient's primary care provider (PCP) when
necessary and, when appropriate, other mental health or specialty providers.
· Screen and assess patients for common mental health and substance abuse
· Provide patient education about mental health disorders and available
treatment options specific to this population.
· Monitor patients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical
symptoms and treatment side effects or complications.
· Support psychotropic medication management prescribed by PCPs, focusing on
treatment adherence, side effects and other complications, and effectiveness
· Provide brief interventions using evidence-based techniques
· Provide or facilitate referrals to evidence-based psychosocial treatments
(e.g, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Applied Behavior Analysis
(ABA), Social Skills groups, as clinically indicated.
· Participate in regularly scheduled (usually weekly) caseload consultation
with the psychiatrist and psychologist.
· Facilitate referrals for clinically indicated services outside the clinic
(e.g., social services such as housing assistance, vocational rehabilitation,
help families navigate / apply for eligible services such as the

Applicants for the Clinical Instructor position must have a Master's degree in
Social Work. It is preferred that the applicant be fully licensed in the state
of North Carolina.
Qualifications and Experience
An excellent working knowledge of mental health conditions specific to the IDD
population and evidence-based treatments for these conditions; experience with
assessment and treatment planning for mental health conditions in this
