Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

Reporting to the Chair of the Department Clinical Oral Healthcare. Primary areas of responsibility include active clinical teaching of oral diagnosis and treatment planning, supporting ICS1 content, calibrating second year ODTP discipline and generalist faculty. In addition to the traditional expectations for faculty members, the culture of humanism and collaboration at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry is especially important.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Scholarship • Continuously reflect in a disciplined fashion on one's field, on education, and on practice • Share scholarship through publications, presentations, and other means with one's peers • Develop an area of scholarship marked by cumulative advances in knowledge and practice • Participate in organizations and groups that encourage and sustain inquiry and provide peer review. • Seek funding, opportunities for investigation, and other resources to sustain scholarship. • Demonstrate a willingness to examine any part of one's professional activities in light of appropriate literature, data, critical thinking, and peer review. 4. Service • Perform activities for the common good of the School of Dentistry, the university, one's professional groups, and the community. • Bring distinction to the School of Dentistry by one's actions. • Exercise and model leadership through helping others work cooperatively for shared goals 5. Patient Care and Management of Patient Care • Promote patient oral health and satisfaction with care in our clinics. • Make referrals as appropriate, but not for one's own benefit. • Enhance patients' respect for students and the school. • Participate in quality assurance and other programs designed to improve the overall effectiveness of the school's clinics. • Strive for mastery as a practicing professional.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITES: 1. Lead clinical teaching for Oral Diagnosis and Treatment Planning (ODTP) for the second-year discipline clinic session. 2. Work with ICS1 course director to support and translate didactic content to clinic and provide feedback on preparedness for patient care. 3. Share ODTP feedback with GPL's, faculty, and students by presenting at meetings and huddles 4. Provide guidance, education, orientation, and mentorship for students through procedural oversight and small group learning. 5. Assist with the selection and mentorship of dedicated ODTP faculty teaching teams for second year discipline clinic. 6. Calibrate faculty assigned to ODTP disciplined clinic. 7. Assess students' clinical progress in developing sequenced comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plans, including strengths and deficiencies. 8. Serve as a generalist floor faculty. 9. Serve as lead faculty for night clinic, resolve and manage bloodborne exposures, unusual occurrences, or other issues. Function as point person in event of facility emergency. 10. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chair of Clinical Oral Healthcare and the Associate Dean for Clinical Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of: 1. Oral Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, sequencing, and comprehensive care. 2. Dental school generalist teaching model. 3. Competency based education and assessment methodology. 4. Modern pedagogical concepts and application in health professions education. 5. Providing care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 6. Integrated, interprofessional care delivery systems. 7. Trends in oral health and oral health education. 8. Dental accreditation standards and processes.

Experience: 1. Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a dental school setting, including teaching ODTP. 2. Minimum of 5 years of practice experience. Education: 1. DDS/DMD or equivalent. 2. Completion of an advanced education program in discipline or specialty 3. Valid BLS Certification.

Working Conditions: 1. Position is three days per week, 44 weeks per year. Position requires coordination of a variety of responsible duties in stressful non-clinical and clinical situations. 2. Must be available to work additional hours every weekday and some weekends.

Physical Requirements

1. Work performed is primarily direct patient care with frequent use of computer keyboard and phone 2. Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, 3. Occasional lifting of up to 15lbs should be anticipated.
