Position Summary

The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Department of Psychiatry invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term psychologist. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of clinicians who provide diagnostic, stabilization, and treatment services for the Perinatal Psychiatry specialty program. We are looking for a psychologist specifically experienced in perinatal psychology. The primary responsibilities include providing outpatient assessment and therapy for perinatal patients and couples. The successful candidate will have strong training and experience with Behavioral Activation and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Teaching activities will include training psychology interns, psychiatry medical residents, and clinical fellows.

This role also involves research. The primary research role involves supervising non-specialist providers (e.g., nurses, doulas, or peers) on a randomized controlled trial examining the efficacy of a brief, evidence-based psychological treatment for perinatal depression and anxiety. Additional opportunities for conducting research are also available.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD/PsyD with appropriate training in psychology and an APA-approved internship.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • At least one year of supervised post-doctoral clinical training
  • Experience with behavior therapies, including Behavior Activation and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Experience with couples therapy or partner-assisted therapy
  • Experience in diagnostic evaluation and psychotherapy with perinatal populations
  • Experience with therapy supervision
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Interest and experience working with historically marginalized populations
  • Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina
