Faculty in the Department of Counseling & Human Services (CHS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) seek a competent and highly qualified Clinical Assistant Professor to provide leadership in our Master's in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs and teach counseling skills and related courses. The successful candidate should have higher education administrative experience, have taught graduate-level counseling courses, and have competent research skills to be a member of dissertation committees. Candidates must hold a doctorate in counselor education, or a closely-related field, by the position start date; doctoral degrees from a CACREP-accredited program are preferred. Candidates also must be licensed or license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and/or school counselor. Candidates with at least 3 years of higher education administrative experience and two years of teaching experience are preferred. This is a 10-month appointment and will report to the CHS department chair.

  • Experience as an administrator in higher education (e.g., program director or coordinator)
  • Experience teaching graduate-level counseling courses
  • Knowledge of and ability to teach counseling and advanced counseling skills
  • Competent research skills (e.g., able to effectively be a member of dissertation committees)
  • Background in affirming diversity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Doctorate in counseling or counselor education
  • Minimum Qualifications - Education or training

    Doctorate in counselor education or closely related field from a regionally accredited university.

    Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification

    License-eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor and/or School Counselor in Commonwealth of Virginia.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited counselor education program
  • Three years of higher education administrative experience
  • Two years of teaching in a graduate counseling program
  • Experience teaching basic and advanced counseling skills courses
  • Previous experience as a graduate program director
  • Experience as a member of dissertation committees
