Clinical Assistant Professor - Literacy

Description

The University of Houston-Clear Lake invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor - Literacy beginning Spring, 2024. This position has a regular teaching course load, comprised of undergraduate and graduate courses.

Duties:

  • Teach both face-to-face and online formats in both fall and spring in areas such as early literacy, secondary literacy, reading, language arts, writing, children's literature, and young adult literature in the elementary and secondary schools, utilizing instructional best practices for the Literacy, Language Arts, and Literature Studies program.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students in clinical and public school settings.
  • Advise master's projects, theses, and doctoral dissertations, maintain collegial relationships with others and provide leadership in reading/writing curriculum projects.
  • Participate, collaborate, and serve in the following capacities; program level meetings, initiatives and growth of LLLS program, student recruitment, College of Education, university, and professional organizations.
  • Engage in marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts, and provide service to the university, the profession, and to local communities as well as perform other duties assigned.

    • Qualifications

    Required:

  • Doctorate degree in Reading/Literacy or in Curriculum and Instruction with Reading/Language Arts or Literacy emphasis from an accredited Educator Preparation program.
  • Minimum three years of public school teaching experience in Reading/Language Arts, EC-12.
  • Applicable working knowledge in the Literacy field.
  • Understanding of instructional strategies relevant to PK-12 education.
  • Knowledge of teacher preparation.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels.
  • Strong andragogy practices and knowledge of mentoring and coaching strategies.

    • Desired:

    Master's degree with a focus in a Literacy or Reading from an accredited program.

    University level teaching and coaching/mentoring experience.

    Texas Certified classroom teacher in applicable field.
