Clinical Assistant Professor

Department of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist and sleep medicine physician, Clinical (Non-Tenure) Track faculty member. The candidate will join progressive and growing psychiatry and neurology divisions. The overall philosophy of this academic division is the provision of comprehensive patient-centered care in our inpatient and outpatient settings and in a variety of unique subspecialty practice settings within our healthcare system.

Appointment will be on the non-tenure clinical track, assistant level rank. The position is a 1.0 FTE and consists of 80% clinical, split between Psychiatry and Neurology, and 20% administrative time.

Clinical work for this position activities will include teaching and patient care within the Department of Psychiatry, inpatient, and other hospital-based psychiatry services (medical – psychiatry and consultation-liaison services). It will also include 50% work as a sleep medicine physician in the Department of Neurology.

All members of the Psychiatry faculty group share weekday, weekend and holiday coverage of the inpatient and consult services. We will work closely with the candidate to optimize his/her time to work in any preferred area of interest.

The UI Department of Psychiatry has a long tradition of excellence in research, a well-developed research infrastructure, and ample patient populations that support efforts in a variety of areas of investigation. These include studies in neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, and basic neuroscience. The Department of Psychiatry is made up of more than 90 full-time faculty members who provide national and international leadership across a range of psychiatric areas, such as child psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, medical psychiatry, and community psychiatry.

  • MD or DO degrees and eligible for an unrestricted Iowa medical license.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to patient care, teaching, and scholarly professional activities.

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work environment.

  • Certifications:

  • Board certified in adult psychiatry

  • Board certified or board eligible in Sleep Medicine.
