About Student and Scholarly Services This role sits within Scholarly Services which manages the University's libraries, scholarly and special collections, the University of Melbourne Archives, and learning systems. It provides information, research and online learning and teaching technology services to meet the scholarly needs of students and staff.

About the Role As a Client Services Officer, you will deliver high quality frontline services that promote learning, teaching and research activities at the University of Melbourne by supporting the Baillieu Library's Reading Room and its users. The Reading Room team is part of the Engagement and Outreach Portfolio, within the University Archives and Special Collections Group. The position is based in the Baillieu Library.

You will be a welcoming face of the Reading Room and provide a high level, and continually improving standard of service focused on meeting the needs of all users of the University Archives and Special Collections. These collections are made available to users through the Reading Room, and you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of requests to use collection material.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide high quality, and continuously improving frontline services to all users of the Reading Room, via face-to-face, online, and telephone, and answering queries
  • Maintain the operation and security of the Reading Room and the collections used therein
  • Conduct effective reference interviews to assist collection discovery and access using a range of databases and discovery systems
  • Retrieve and re-shelve collection items for researchers in the Reading Room as requested
  • About You You will have demonstrated self-motivation and initiative in the delivery and provision of excellent customer service.

    You will also have well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, including the ability to establish good working relationships with key stakeholders and a strong client focus.

    You will also have:

  • Undergraduate qualifications in museum studies, archives, librarianship, information sciences or another relevant discipline and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
  • Knowledge of databases, catalogues, and library and request management systems for accurate collection cataloguing, tracking and administration
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
