Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Network for Research Support (WINRS) envisions a world where diverse patient and community perspectives are integrated into health science research and education to improve health equity. To make this vision a reality, WINRS works to advance justice and equity on and off campus and promotes the active engagement of historically marginalized communities in health science research. WINRS offers a variety of consultative services to support research equity and help translational scientists incorporate relevant stakeholder perspectives into their projects. We coordinate two groups of community advisors affiliated with the Goodman Community Center and Lussier Community Education Center called the Community Advisors on Research Design and Strategies (CARDS). CARDS draw on their lived experience to offer feedback to researchers on their study plans and materials, including recruitment materials and strategies, surveys, interview and focus group questions, project activities, websites, mobile apps and more.

WINRS will be facilitating two new advisory groups of older adults in urban and rural areas to bring additional perspectives from diverse racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds to researchers who want to get input from people who are closest to the topic they are studying. Our work is highly relational and grounded in building mutually beneficial partnerships with a variety of university and community groups. The key responsibilities of this position include to: consult with researchers on a broad spectrum of methods for inclusive patient and community engagement designed to strengthen translational science; co-facilitate meetings with research teams, patient and community advisors, and other stakeholders to learn from lived experience and promote research equity; and collaborate to expand transformational work around anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion and access in health sciences research.
