Residences manage a diverse portfolio of properties and offer accommodation to c.6,500 students per year in University Halls of Residence. Across the cities of Southampton and Winchester, another c.20,000 students make their homes in private rented accommodation. The role of City Housing Relationship Manager has been created to build on existing relationships and schemes that intend to improve the quality of private rented accommodation available for students to rent.

The post holder will manage a small team to develop and deliver a sector- leading accreditation scheme for private rented student accommodation in Southampton and will promote it to University of Southampton students and prospective landlords. The post holder will also manage the occupancy of the University's portfolio of c.50 family houses, overseeing the delivery of great customer service to tenants and internal stakeholders, and will liaise with local purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) operators, to quantify demand for accommodation across Southampton and Winchester.

The main duties are:

  • To be responsible for the University of Southampton's private rented housing accreditation scheme in partnership with Southampton City Council and Southampton Solent University
  • To review and refresh the scheme with the aim of driving quality improvements in the sector
  • To manage a schedule of property visits, to ensure accredited properties meet the required standards
  • To develop marketing opportunities and promotion for the accreditation scheme that improves landlord and student engagement
  • To oversee the University's family house offer, ensuring all statutory checks are complete and contractual issues are complied with
  • To liaise and build relationships with local purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) operators
