Position Title Child Care Teacher's Assistant
This class is the first level in the Child Care series. Incumbents assist the
Teacher in developing and implementing activities and lesson plans, observing
developmental progress, and ensuring an appropriate environment for the
children. Responsibilities may include directing children's activities,
communicating with parents about their child's/children's day on a daily
basis; and planning and implementing lessons according to the developmental
level of the children.
Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience
Six (6) college-credit hours in early childhood, child development, youth
development, and/or child/family-related courses required; nine (9) credit
hours preferred. Six months experience required.
Preferred Education and/or Training and Experience
First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
Essential Job Function
These are the job duties that are required of the position.
1. Assist Teacher in the development of curriculum and implement appropriate
activities to advance all areas of the children's development and learning.
2. Assist Teacher in establishing positive, respectful relationships with all
children to foster development. Observe and respond to the individual child's
needs and potential, as well as to those of the group. (A1)

Recognize and report signs of child abuse/neglect as specified in the

6. Ensure that mealtime is a pleasant learning experience. (A1)
7. Model developmentally appropriate practices for teaching aides, volunteers
and teacher education students. (A1)
8. Attend staff meetings, in-service training, workshops, and special
activities as directed. (A1)
9. Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Physical Effort Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects.
