Position Title Chief of Optometry- Woodhull Medical CenterPosition Description
The State University of New York College of Optometry is seeking applicants for a full time Chief of Optometry at Woodhull Medical Center which is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York and is part of the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation. The Chief of Optometry will assure effective and efficient delivery of the highest quality eye and vision care consistent with the mission and vision of both the SUNY College of Optometry and Woodhull Medical Center. The Chief of Optometry will provide direct supervision for faculty, residents and students assigned to the facility. The Chief of Optometry will hold an appropriate faculty rank within the SUNY College of Optometry and will be a member of the medical staff of Woodhull Medical Center. The Chief of Optometry will work with the Chief of Ophthalmology to coordinate the Eye Care Center at Woodhull Medical Center.
As both a direct care provider and a supervisor of residents and students, the OD will participate in the effective and efficient delivery of the highest quality eye and vision care consistent with the mission and vision of both the SUNY College of Optometry and Gotham Health. The OD will be responsible for the supervisor of the residency program in in primary eye care with an emphasis on ocular disease and community health. The OD will hold an appropriate faculty rank within the SUNY College of Optometry and will be a member of the medical staff of East New York.
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a desire to collaborate with colleagues in an interprofessional setting, and the ability to assess and manage ocular and visual health for patients of all ages and backgrounds. Previous teaching experience in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred. Requirements include a Doctor of Optometry degree, the successful completion of an optometric residency program, and a license to practice optometry in New York State prior to employment. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a between five and ten years of administrative/supervisory experience in an academic or health care setting is required.
Salary Range: $145,000-$155,000. We are a qualifying employer in the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
