Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill is
consistently rated among the top public academic research medical centers in
the United States. The Department of Neurology provides expert neurological
consultation and specialty neurological care at the North Carolina
Neurosciences Hospital, the UNC Children's Hospital, and at an outpatient
clinic facility located near the UNC Chapel Hill campus. The Department has a
total of 48 faculty members, eight of whom exclusively conduct research.
The Division of Child Neurology includes nine physicians, two nurse
practitioners, two nurses and five residents, and will continue to grow in the
near future. The division offers expertise in neurogenetics, metabolic
disorders, neurocutaneous disorders (neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis,
Sturge-Weber and others), childhood headaches, epilepsy, sleep disorders,
neuromuscular diseases (muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and
others) and cerebral palsy. The clinics for the care of patients with these
disorders apply state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities and multidisciplinary
expertise to provide the some of the best care in the southeast United States.
The dieticians, psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, and
occupational therapists provide important help for the patients we evaluate
and manage in our clinics and wards.
The Department of Neurology of the University of North Carolina School of
Medicine at Chapel Hill is recruiting a Child Neurologist at the associate
professor or professor level to serve as Chief Child Neurologist and Medical
Director of Neurology in UNC Children's Hospital. We are seeking a board-
certified child neurologist with administrative experience and a strong
background in patient care and teaching or research who will assume
administrative roles for the Child Neurology program in the Department of
Neurology. The individual in this position will be responsible for overseeing
Neurology care delivery for children in the inpatient and outpatient setting
at UNC and UNC Health system institutions where UNC faculty provide clinical
care or diagnostic testing. Academic rank will be dependent on qualifications
and experience. This position includes designated salary support for
administrative duties. Research start-up support is available for candidates
with successful research experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
The qualified candidate will have an MD. Candidates must have administrative
experience and a strong background in patient care, and teaching or research.
