POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chapel and Events Audio Technical Intern provides a seamless worship experience for the Asbury Theological Seminary community. The intern ensures that all in-service audio needs are met in a timely manner, using creative problem solving and knowledge of the Chapel's various audio systems. This position supports both the Help Desk and Office of the Chapel in the overall production of chapels at Asbury Theological Seminary. Hours: 1-12 per week

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensure smooth audio experience during live chapels:

  • Schedule sound checks, pre-chapel day and morning of pre-chapel, with Coordinator of Worship for instrumentation needs for Chapel Services.
  • Oversee the actual operation of the in-chapel audio equipment for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday chapels.
  • Setup and tear down equipment needs for each chapel service.
  • Steward Audio Equipment in Chapel:

  • Equipment includes: sound board, microphones, stands, cables, grand piano, drum kit, etc.
  • Manage a running list of audio equipment needs and/or malfunctions and report them to the Director of Technology Support.
  • Steward equipment supplies, i.e. batteries for microphones, etc.
  • Serve as Lia ison to Chapel Assistants Team:

  • Meet with Coordinator of Worship and Chapel Assistants team as needed to ensure smooth chapel productions.
  • Participate in the Office of the Chapel trainings and meetings as determined by the Director of Technology Support and the Coordinator of Worship.
  • Tools & Equipment:

  • Medium format digital console with subgroups and multiple auxiliary sends, microphones (various styles), instruments, monitors, in-ear monitors, instrument hook-up
  • EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Due to the nature of this work, this position requires that no class be taken during 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday during the Fall and Spring semesters. It is not required that all three times are kept open, but this job is not available to anyone who has classes on all three chapel days.
  • Given the active presence of God and the theological-formational nature of our community, we work to insure a high degree of theological integrity and liturgical excellence in corporate worship. For this reason, we strongly favor the selection of an intern who has demonstrated commitment to the serious study and excellent practice of Christian worship.
  • Comfortable running a medium format console using subgroups and multiple auxiliary sends.
  • Basic understanding of compression and using insert channel on a medium format console.
  • Ability to think of creative solutions and specific forms of “wiring in” various worship settings.
  • Understanding the basics of ground loops and troubleshooting challenges related to Estes Chapel's sound system.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in handling challenges and non-routine situations.
  • Serves as a pastoral presence on campus by pursuing wholeness and holiness in lifestyle and ministry.
