Through inclusive relationship building, the purpose of the chair is to lead the department and its energetic and engaged community of educator-scholars into the future by strategically identifying and fostering areas for additional growth, innovation, and partnership. Provide leadership to the Department of Counseling and Psychology in setting and achieving goals and objectives that fulfill the department's mission and align with the strategic priorities of the college and university.

Essential Functions

Provide leadership for the academic, personnel, fiscal, and public affairs of the Department of Counseling and Psychology. Oversee all operations of the department, including the management of budget; supervising and assigning teaching and non-teaching responsibilities to faculty and staff; faculty and staff evaluations; curriculum and accreditation matters; coordinating with various campus offices to advance departmental and university objectives. Foster critical thinking across courses, research-intensive curricula, and evidence-based teaching practices. Promote collegiality and manage conflict. Facilitate faculty-led updating or co-design of academic program curriculum with appropriate stakeholders. Lead departmental strategic planning and implementation efforts to elevate ranking of degree programs. Enable collaboration among researchers within and beyond the department. Facilitate and support faculty development in teaching, research, and service. Represents Counseling and Psychology faculty in meetings with college and university administration. Serve as a liaison with communities, stakeholders, university colleagues, alumni, LEAs, and supporters. Represent and serve as an advocate for the department, the university and to the greater public. Maintains appropriate levels of teaching, research, and service.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution with a minimum of five full years of full-time higher education experience. Must have earned the rank of associate professor or professor at an accredited institution. Demonstrated achievement in counseling, psychology, or a related field including research and related publications and external funding. Experience recruiting, retaining, and supporting faculty, staff, and students. Demonstrated commitment to supporting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Leadership in developing and implementing program and curriculum changes. Demonstrated success with budgetary management, conflict resolution, and staff supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and building and sustaining a culture of collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with CAEP and CACREP. Familiarity with state licensure, regulations, and reporting requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 2023.

Benefits Information

Benefits include the accumulation of one (1) sick leave day per month and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Deferred income and benefits over 12 months.
