The Department of Finance and Economics in the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The department houses faculty in the disciplines of finance, economics, and business law. Reporting to the Dean, the chair is responsible for the implementation of university, college, and department policies and the development, coordination, and administration of all academic programs and activities within the department. The Chair, as a representative of the department, is expected to articulate program aspirations, directions, standards, and points of view to other groups inside and outside the university community.

Texas State's San Marcos campus is located in a growing community along the I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. The McCoy College of Business is interested in recruiting an individual who can embrace and enhance the vision of a diverse, collegial, and productive academic environment while building and leading collaborative, interdisciplinary teams. Dynamic leadership, clear communication, strong interpersonal skills, and a keen strategic vision are crucial characteristics required for success.

The College is AACSB-accredited, has grown more than 30 percent over the last 10 years, and serves over 4,000 undergraduate students and nearly 500 graduate students. The College hosts seven master's degree programs, Quantitative Finance and Economics, Data Analytics and Information Science, Marketing Research and Analysis, Accountancy, Accounting and Information Technology, Human Resource Management, and Business Administration.

Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to provide academic leadership, mentor faculty and students, conduct and publish high-quality scholarly research, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The chair is responsible for managing the department's budget and leading the department on matters related to curriculum innovation and research impact, recruitment and performance evaluation of faculty and staff, and the formulation and implementation of strategic priorities. The chair will work with the dean in seeking and facilitating giving and resource development for the department. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualifying degrees:

  • Earned doctorate in business administration from an AACSB – accredited institution, with a concentration in either finance or economics;
  • Ph.D. in finance;
  • Ph.D. in economics; or
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited school of law.
  • A record of excellence in scholarship evidenced by publication record commensurate with appointment at the associate professor or professor level in the Department of Finance & Economics.

  • Hold the rank of professor or have at least five years' experience at the rank of associate professor (the successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards of quality research, effective teaching, and dedicated service).
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative experience as a department chair, particularly in a department housing multiple disciplines, or other administrative experience.
  • A distinguished record of teaching and service at an AACSB–accredited business school.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative culture in an academic unit and to maintain a collegial working relation across the university.
  • Experience mentoring junior faculty and supporting faculty development.
  • Interest in building alliances and/or participating in academia and business communities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in support of faculty and students.
  • Record of participating in, designing, leading, and/or implementing innovative programs that reflect external changes in the applicant's discipline.
