The Nursing Department in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, the University of Texas at Arlington, invites applications for a tenured department Chair position.
The Chair, Department of Graduate Nursing is appointed by the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) and is accountable to the Dean. The roles and functions of the Chair, Department of Graduate Nursing include provision of leadership in the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Department of Graduate Nursing and collaboration with other departments in the advancement of college priorities.
Responsible for the leadership and guidance to all Nursing Graduate faculty. Designing and execution, of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient, department assets are safeguarded, department financial information is reliable, and the department complies with college and university policies as well as applicable laws and regulations.

Department and College/School Information The College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is the largest not-for-profit college of nursing, with online and in-person students. The College is committed to the University's goal of enhancing academic and research excellence, promoting access to education, student success. The College has 500+ full time and part time faculty and has received 3 National League of Nursing Center of Excellence designations, including a new designation in category “Advancing the Science of Nursing Education”. CONHI has accomplished a tremendous expansion of its profile as a research enterprise. For FY 2022, the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research ranked CONHI #32 in receipt of NIH funding among Schools of Nursing. In FY 2021/2022, CONHI had active research awards totaling nearly $47.1 Million, including multi-year funding, and over forty active research faculty members. The College has ongoing translational research that includes basic sciences, clinical, applied and community studies in areas such as aging, cardiovascular, cardio-oncology, mental health, women's health, skeletal muscle, patient safety, rural health, health disparities and vulnerable populations.
CONHI's Department of Graduate Nursing offers a variety of programs for a Master of Science in Nursing, Post-Baccalaureate and Post Master's Nursing Certificates (Nursing Educator Certificate, Nursing Administration Certificate, Graduate Gerontology Healthcare Certificate, and Telehealth and Health Informatics Certificate), Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Ph.D. in Nursing. We seek individuals with outstanding qualifications who share the University's core values of high standards of excellence in innovative and collaborative research, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment to serve as the Chair for the Department of Graduate Nursing.
The Department of Graduate Nursing Chair must meet qualifications for a tenured position. The Chair is responsible for the leadership and guidance to all full-time and part-time Nursing Graduate faculty. The Graduate Department has 179 full-time faculty of which 42 are tenure stream and 137 are non-tenure steam. The Chair is appointed by the Dean of the CONHI and is accountable to the Dean. The roles and functions of the Department of Graduate Nursing Chair include provision of leadership in the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Department of Graduate Nursing and collaboration with other departments in the advancement of college priorities. The College is particularly interested in recruiting an innovative nurse leader who can lead the college's Department of Graduate Nursing and make a significant contribution to the college's focus on advancing health and the human condition. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their teaching, research, and service. Candidates must demonstrate active, externally funded research agendas, with a strong history of funded research and scholarly productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administration & Operations: Provides leadership and strategic oversight to the department of graduate nursing; recruits and retains qualified faculty for the graduate nursing program; onboards, orients and mentors new faculty; leads regular faculty meetings; coordinates all faculty teaching assignments and development of class schedules; serves on various internal and external committees; continually assess effectiveness of programs and operations through feedback, surveys, and other tools; develops annual budget; coordinates and oversees timely completion of reporting mechanisms, including Unit Effectiveness Process (UEP); directs and manages clinical placements and clinical clearance for all graduate nursing students; ensures Academic Partnerships has relevant information on graduate programs; oversees recruitment of recruit preceptors and clinical sites; manages all aspects of graduate commencement activities. Provides leadership, mentorship and guidance for professional development for both tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty members. Advances the implementation of CONHI strategic plan.
Curriculum, Accreditation, and Certifications: Manages the completion of the Board of Nursing and certifying body paperwork process for all graduating nurse practitioner students; leads the development and implementation of curricular changes; examines and analyzes student evaluations, faculty feedback, and changing industry standards and expectations; coordinates the approval of new programs.
Leadership: Contributes to Missions through direct teaching, research/scholarship and service. Serves as a role model in these areas.
Professional Development: Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to ensure excellent and consistent leadership, management, and oversight of the Graduate Nursing department. Other duties as assigned.
