About the Melbourne Graduate School of Education

The Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) is a vibrant and exciting place to study and work. Our environment is supportive and student-focussed, and our courses are challenging. Our buildings are designed for graduate education students, offering a range of contemporary learning and social spaces.

About the role

The MGSE is seeking tutors to teach into the professional experience component of the Master of Teaching and support pre-service teachers (Teacher Candidates) to undertake supervised teaching placements in schools and early learning settings across Victoria.

Tutors will make effective contributions to teaching and learning, engagement and pastoral care. This will support Teacher Candidates on-site in placement settings and on-campus. Specifically, Tutors will demonstrate expert content and pedagogical knowledge as well as highly effective classroom teaching and mentoring in clinical teaching practice.

A fundamental element of this position is the integration of theory and practice. This supports pre-service teachers through the delivery of a structured and progressive curriculum to develop their praxis of clinical teaching (on-site in placement settings and on-campus).

In addition, you will:

  • Deliver highly effective teaching and mentoring in collaboration with the Clinical Teaching Practice Coordinator and a team of tutors;
  • Observe Teacher Candidates' teaching in placement settings through face- to-face and online engagement and provide feedback on teaching.
  • Collaborate with Mentor Teachers (based in the educational setting) to conduct subject assessments and undertake marking and moderation to ensure consistent and equitable assessment outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the theoretical framework of evidence- based, interventionist clinical models of pedagogy and individualised learning informing the MTeach program.
  • Tutor positions are available across all M Teach programs including Early Childhood, Early Childhood and Primary, Primary, and Secondary. Applicants are advised to clearly identify: the M teach program in which you are interested in applying to; the academic teaching periods that correspond with your availability (Semester 1 Feb-June or Semester 2 Jul-Nov); and the number of Clinical Teaching Practice subjects you would like to tutor in.

  • Flexible family friendly policies, providing generous leave and working conditions;
  • Working for one of Australia's top Universities;
  • Growing your expertise and innovative thinking in an environment that leaves an impact; and
  • The opportunity to work in a culturally rich environment.
