CAREER PEER ADVISOR (CPA) JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you enjoy helping your peers through education and leadership? Are you looking for an on-campus job opportunity to develop professionally, while helping your peers do the same? If this describes you, consider applying for the Career Peer Advisor (CPA) program in the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD).

Career Peer Advisors are trained paraprofessionals who provide career assistance through the CCPD Drop-In Center, career events, and programs. Working closely with the CCPD team, CPAs advise/coach their peers on quick career-related concerns, such as the career planning process, effective internship and job search skills, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing strategies, and leveraging online career resources. CPAs can be scheduled from 4-10 hours per week around their academic and personal commitments.

  • Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain office hours in the CCPD Drop-In Center to assist students with career development needs, such as resume and cover letter reviews, interview prep, internship and job search, and Handshake/LinkedIn support.
  • Educate students, faculty, and staff on navigating department tools and resources.
  • Support the planning, marketing, and executing of CCPD career events (e.g., Job & Internship Fair, Mock Interview Day, and New Student Orientation Days).
  • Meet regularly with CCPD staff to discuss career needs of students and peers, opportunities for partnership with student organizations and faculty, and personal and professional development.
  • Communicate professionally with employer, faculty, and staff partners regarding events and services offered by the CCPD.
  • Collaborate with CCPD and CPA team to manage projects in support of career development throughout the campus community.
  • Provide administrative support to the CCPD professional team with office duties and on-line resources.
  • Paraprofessionals:

    The Center for Career and Professional Development Career Peer Advisor role is recognized as a paraprofessional role at North Central College. The CCPD will follow the paraprofessionals timeline accordingly to allow students the opportunity to engage in multiple processes to maximize on their experiences at North Central College. Applicants are welcome and encouraged to apply to additional paraprofessional roles as their interests and qualifications align.     Job Qualifications:

  • A desire to assist other NCC students and an interest in learning about career development topics.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to review and edit professional documents (resumes, cover letters) and provide constructive feedback as needed.
  • Demonstrate leadership, dependability, and initiative.
  • Ability to work independently as a part of a team.
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion for all students.
  • Data analysis experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Will this position be working with minors? No Approximate number of work hours per week 4-8; hours will be discussed during the interview
