The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Georgia advances the goals, objectives, and priorities of the university by generating private financial support, building, and maintaining relationships with alumni and donors, and assisting students with career development opportunities.

Career Center

The University of Georgia Career Center is the provider of centralized career services to undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni at The University of Georgia. Career Center staff work collaboratively with faculty and staff of all departments to enhance the career success of University of Georgia students/alumni. Several of the “nuts & bolts” services the UGA Career Center provides to its students include career counseling, job search training, and opportunities to connect with employers.

The Career Center also serves as a corporate gateway to the University by helping employers meet key faculty/staff, understand culture and curriculum, and successfully recruit UGA students and alumni. A broad group of corporate, government, and nonprofit employers recruit at The University of Georgia, and the Career Center facilitates this process through career fairs, on-campus interviews, and a variety of recruiting and educational programs and events.

  • The preferred qualifications for this position include a master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration, counseling, or related field.
  • Career services experience is preferred. Specifically, experience providing comprehensive advising and career counseling related to career exploration and job-related skill development.
  • Position Summary

    This Career Consultant position serves as the career services liaison to the Colleges/Schools at The University of Georgia. This is the tangible link between the Career Center and the college; both externally, as a resource on career planning issues specific to that college for students, employers, and faculty; and internally, as a referral point of contact and advocate for that college.

    Career Consultants provide comprehensive advising and career counseling related to career exploration, job-related skill development, experiential learning, graduate school placement, and employment placement needs of students and alumni within their respective college. They develop ties with corporate, technical, governmental, educational, and non-profit organizations with which UGA students might affiliate. They work closely with their college faculty and undergraduate advising office, other student services staff, and students in developing a meaningful programmatic outreach program.

    Career Counseling, Coaching, and Student Outreach

  • Provide comprehensive career counseling and coaching through one-on-one appointments and in groups on career related topics including major and career exploration, resume/cover letter critiques, job, and internship search strategies, applying to graduate or professional school, mock interviews, networking, and addressing any additional needs of students and alumni within their respective college.
  • Develop core presentations for college/major-specific outreach requests and for Arch Ready Professionalism programs.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of academic majors/tracks/trends through contact with administrators, faculty, college staff, students, and employers, and through information provided by the department, college, regional and national publications.
  • Provide staffing support for office-wide career fairs and events that promote the career development of students and alumni.
  • Market upcoming events, fairs, workshops, and resources to students through Handshake, departmental contacts, and college/major-specific listservs.

    Campus & Employer Outreach

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key principals, e.g., Deans, Department Chairs, Undergraduate Coordinators, friends of the CC (individually and in groups), within the colleges/majors as needed to generate expectations, goals, and a strategic referral source to promote career services to students.
  • Connect with appropriate employers, alumni, and mentors during Career Fairs, panel events, on-campus interviewing and through various professional organizations.
