The UNT Career Center is the centralized career office responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students.

Position Overview

Due to the impacts of COVID, the job market is rapidly changing and students are in need of greater job preparation support. Students have identified that COVID has changed their intended career focus and/or the workforce needs for their chosen profession has changed because of the pandemic. These changes for students include the desire to serve others and/or the desire to identify a vocation that allows for more work/life balance. Additionally, the workforce changes include the need to work remotely as well as how positions are hired. Students are in need of better training and support to adjust to a virtual hiring process. Because of this need, UNT is hiring more career advisors to embed in the colleges to enhance support and provide more personal outreach to students. The increase in career advisors allows more students to have individualized attention that helps prepare them for these changes.

The Career Center Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Career Center – Engineering Career Coach to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: Lead efforts toward planning and implementing career development and job search programs and services to students, by working with students, faculty and staff in an assigned department. This includes, but is not limited to, individual advising and group workshops. Partner with the academic advisors & counselors in the college to manage the internship program for their assigned department, insuring that available internships meet all the departmental requirements for credit and the students that apply are eligible for the internship. Cultivate and manage relationships with current and new employers recruiting students from assigned department, in partnership with the assigned department, the staff and the main Career Center. Lead job market research efforts for their assigned area, in order to provide current and relevant data to faculty and students. Work directly with student organizations in making connections to corporate speakers/mentors. Manage the assessment of career programs and services, and deliver reports to their supervisor. Provide marketing of career services to the students and faculty in the assigned department.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. • Experience in networking across departments and programs. • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. • Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. • Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Counseling and two years' experience in Career Services or

Career Counseling

Job Duties

o

Interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships and career related issues

o

Analyze student's career paths, initiate career assessments, provide advice on resume development, interview preparation, and offer internship and job search resources

o

Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace

o

Develop ongoing relationship with faculty, staff and administration working with the College student population

o

Work cooperatively with faculty and the Career Center Employer Development and Outreach Team to utilize more companies and alumni from a broad range of industries to engage with students on campus

o

Develop reports on the statistical data for all student engagement and programming for assigned area(s) of responsibility to be used for the Career Center data collection

o

Assist other staff members in the areas of the event & program management and the mentoring program where necessary
