  • Position Summary:

    The University Police Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking applicants for its Campus Security Team. We are looking for individuals who will be dedicated to increasing the overall safety environment of campus. Team members will be non-sworn and unarmed and will help to identify and locate potential risks and hazards and increase the university community sense of security and safety.     Duties:

    100Responsible for assisting with the enforcing of regulations pertaining to the safety of University of Alaska and University of Alaska Anchorage facilities and property, to include patrolling University controlled property for the purpose of assisting with the safeguarding of buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of the University of Alaska Statewide or University of Alaska Anchorage. Provides service to students, employees, and visitors; writes reports; checks permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus or at Statewide buildings; directs flow of traffic and parking of cars when needed; and issues University parking violation citations as appropriate. Patrols buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity. Provides directions to locate buildings and offices and other general information to visitors. Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or in vehicle to provide security and prevent crime. Provide Event Security as required or needed. Writes reports on incidents occurring on a campus or Statewide buildings. Performs other related duties as required.Essential

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Should have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Campus Security team member.

    Intermediate knowledge of and ability to interpret and explain university regulations, protocols and procedures. Basic knowledge of federal, state and local statutes and laws. Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills. Record keeping skills. Conflict resolution and organizational skills. Intermediate ability to operate computers and specialized equipment. Ability to exercise judgment under difficult situations with tact and diplomacy. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

    Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, as directed by University of Alaska Board of Regents Policy, Alaska Police Standards Council, and FBI – Criminal Justice Information Systems requirements.

    Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive.

    Typical Experience:

    Preferred 3 years experience in the security field, event staffing, or public safety. Experience in an educational setting (k-12 or Higher Education), preferred.

    Required Education or Training:

    Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent. College experience preferred.

    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, term-funded, Grade 78 (minimum $23.84 hourly, DOE) 12-month position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
