Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Arts and Science – History Department.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Performs fiscal functions such as accounting, grant accounting, and budgeting.
  • Analyzes data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes consistent with a broad understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the business unit.
  • Works under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions.
  • Carries out routine and non-routine tasks with occasional review of work outputs by supervisor.
  • Performs professional work requiring knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP) and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and applied bases of accounting.
  • Organizes scholarly meetings and conferences and arranges related payments to vendors and suppliers.
  • Assists with the processing of payroll and the management of faculty research accounts.
  • Contributes to routine office duties, including regular contact with faculty and students.
  • Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement

    Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

    The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023.     Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Two years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function, good communication skills, and computer literacy.
  • Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and in professional and courteous manner when working with all constituents.
  • Experience using software tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel (pivot tables), Access, Power Point.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, responding flexibly and positively in all circumstances.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a broad range of people, including but not limited to faculty, staff, students, administrators, and any additional key points of contact.
