Perform moderately complex custodial work which involves cleaning and caring for buildings and maintaining custodial equipment and requesting supplies. Supervise Building Attendant I employees and train others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming and scrubs tile work, floors, stairways, hallways, shower rooms, locker rooms and building lobbies. Waxes and polishes floors. Washes windows. Cleans and dust furniture and other office equipment. Perform rest room maintenance by applying cleaning chemicals appropriately and replenishing supplies. Clean, dust and disinfects areas such as rest rooms, classrooms and other areas. Key Management and Supervision of Building Attendant I. Dispose of trash and recyclable materials. Operate custodial maintenance equipment including vacuums, buffers/burnisher, auto-scrubbers, KaiVac's and extractors. Assures energy conservation by ensuring all non-necessary lights are turned off (classrooms, offices, etc.). Inspect buildings for cleanliness, needed repairs and completed work orders. Makes an identification of all problems requiring a work order for correction, such as (light bulb replacement, lock adjustment, carpet repair, broken glass, holes in walls, ceiling tile replacement, tripping hazards, termites, etc.). Assists in maintaining inventory of custodial equipment materials, supplies and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Valid Texas driver's license required. Ability to effectively execute oral and written instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. Six (6) months of supervisory experience. Six (6) months to One (1) year of experience in custodial and maintenance work. Strong communications skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial methods and materials. Knowledge of and the ability to use, janitorial equipment and supplies. Ability to perform heavy physical labor as required. Ability to accurately perform all phases of duties assigned. Ability to read English, proficient in the use, care and maintenance of basic janitorial equipment.

Working Conditions

Will frequently involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements, such as dirt, excessive heat, cold, wetness, prolonged standing, walking, lifting and carrying. Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and to others. Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and tops of roofs of buildings. Occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and all weather conditions. Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel and squat. Knowledge of and ability to use maintenance tools and supplies.
