Primary Purpose of Position

The Boeing Endowed Professor position honors a consistent record of accomplishment in leading and conducting cutting edge research in the “Design and Performance” and “Mechano-Aerospace” aspects of Mechanical Engineering; a commitment to educating, inspiring and mentoring Mechanical Engineering undergraduate and graduate students; and the aptitude to further grow and advance the impact and reputation of the Mechanical Engineering Department at North Carolina A&T State University through education, research, engagement, and scholarly productivity. This endowed professor position can be at the associate or full professor rank (commensurate with accomplishments and qualifications); and is renewable after 4 years, based on strong performance in the role.

This is a 9-month position.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls over 12,700 students.

The College of Engineering, with over 2100 students, has EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET accredited program in Computer Science.

On the Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral degree programs. Additional information about the College and the University can be found at www. ncat.edu/coe.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers BS, MS, and PhD level degrees, and also supports a Aerospace option. The faculty and students of the department are actively engaged in regional and international conferences such as SAE Baja, SAE Aero, and the SAE/GM Autodrive Competition. The Mechanical Engineering department currently supports the largest undergraduate student population of North Carolina A&T's College of Engineering.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: 1. A Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. 2. Experience in transportation vehicle design (including sea, land and space vehicles as well as rotorcraft systems). 3. Extensive research and scholarly productivity in the areas of vehicle on- board sensing and computations. 4. An extensive funded research profile in the areas of space systems, satellite, access-to-space vehicles research or related fields. 5. A commitment to developing a research portfolio and funded research programs in the aerospace field. 6. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in training and managing of graduate and undergraduate students. 7. Commitment of diversity, inclusion and affirmative action and equal opportunity procedures and principles.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

The following experience and skill-sets are preferred: 1. An earned doctorate and academic qualifications sufficient to support appointment at the rank of professor. 2. A strong record of research including attracting extramural research funding and in delivering strong results while working with students; 3. Experience as research center director and/or notable department leadership (e.g., program or research coordinator for a relevant department) 4. Experience in foundational areas of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering including avionics, autonomy, aero-structures and rotorcraft and Flight Stability. 4. Experience conducting research in the areas of novel propulsion systems, access-to-space systems and turbomachinery. 5. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Required License or Certification

A PE License is preferred.
