Biological Safety Co-ordinator (Part time) - Internal Applicants only

As the Biological Safety Co-ordinator this role supports the Departmental Safety Officer and acts as the Department's Biological Safety Officer. The role provides advice and support to staff and students about safe working practices and regulatory compliance, acts as the first point of contact for biological safety matters, reviews and manages biological risk assessments and follows up on incidents involving biologically hazardous materials. The post holder will also deputise for the Departmental Safety Officer, and line manages the Departmental Safety Technician.

As a key member of the Department's Professional Services staff the successful candidate must have considerable knowledge of working in a scientific environment/ biological research laboratory in HE, experience of assessing risks from hazardous biological agents and of monitoring health and safety performance through audit and inspection, an understanding of COSHH and GM (Contained Use) regulations plus an awareness of Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, HTA and CITES, Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations.

You will hold a first degree in a biological science and will also have a recognised safety qualification such as a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification. You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, proven organisational skills, the ability to work independently and contribute to the team, the ability to write scientific reports and procedures, along with excellent computing skills including experience in using SharePoint and Teams for document management

The role is 20-25 hours per week, days and hours to be worked will be negotiable on appointment.
