JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work with UTMB's Institutional Office of Regulated Nonclinical Studies to conduct a variety of non-routine research assignments and experiments in a high containment facility including BioSafety Levels 3 or 4.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in basic science or equivalent and 5 years of related experience with 2 years experience in a BSL 3 or 4. Or, Master's degree in basic science or equivalent and 2 years of related experience required, one year in a BSL 3 or 4.

SPECIFIC JOB RELATED DUTIES:

  • Plans, coordinates and directs complex research experiments following general technical procedures.
  • Documents experimental procedures and outcomes.
  • Performs quality control on study paperwork to ensure that it is complete and correct.
  • Maintains records of all tests performed and data collected, compiles and tabulates data, provides analysis of results, and engages in long-range planning.
  • Performs functions of research projects utilizing bio-hazardous substances in BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Performs technical services such as tissue sampling, blood draws, anesthesia and injections.
  • Conducts research techniques as required by investigator.
  • Establishes and follows specific protocols.
  • Establishes and oversees quality control measures for assigned project operations.
  • Contributes to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects.
  • Orders and maintains lab inventory of supplies, animals and equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of biohazard operations.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • SALARY RANGE:

    $56,083 -$67,300; Commensurate with experience.
