Position Summary:
The Mechina Pathways Program is seeking a mentor for students in the program
to support them and run on-campus programming.
Position Responsibilities:
Religious Life
Empower students to produce their own creative Jewish experiences and to
further develop their religious identities
Lead weekly Shabbatons and periodic holiday celebrations on campus
Coordinate, implement, and evaluate all aspects of major Jewish holiday
programming and observances on campus, including Chanuka, Purim and
Shavuot (depending on when it falls out during the academic year)
Lead off-Campus Shabbatons as assigned.
Education
Work with the Dean of Torah Studies to craft an educational vision and
strategy for religious life on campus outside of the classroom, creating
innovative opportunities for formal, informal, and experiential Jewish
learning for students with diverse backgrounds and interests that include
a multiplicity of perspectives
Deliver regular shiurim in the Beit Midrash and study in small groups with
students
Create new educational opportunities, both formal and informal, and
develop a corresponding curriculum and structure
Engage the campus in Jewish conversation through social media and other
creative means
Serve as a Jewish educational resource for the Office of Student Life and
student leaders
Serve as leaders and educators on Service Learning intersession
experiences Engagement
Proactively form meaningful relationships with students from a variety of
learning backgrounds, including students who have and have not attended
Jewish Day school and seminary in Israel, and create opportunities for
them to deepen their participation in religious life on campus
Offer religious guidance, and mentorship to students.
Connect students to resources and opportunities for religious growth in
the greater New York, and global Jewish communities
Actively promote Yeshiva University and its Jewish life to prospective
students and parents
Community Leadership
Become active members of the Office of Student Life, and work closely with
student-led clubs on campus
Advise and serve as a Jewish resource for Beren campus student groups
Administration
Support the program, engagement, and operations staff as needed
Participate in regular staff meetings and events of The Office of Student
Life
Additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by The Office of Student
Life
Supervise multiple student employees
Mechina Mentor:
Coordinate meetings with students in the Mechina pathways program weekly
Maintains follow-ups with students
Create and coordinate programming on campus for the students in the
program
Experience & Educational Background:
A BA or MA in Judaic Studies, Education, or Social Work preferred - At least
two years of professional work experience
Skills & Competencies:
An approachable, dynamic and engaging personality with outstanding
interpersonal skills
Clear and effective verbal and written communication
Skill and comfort in a technology-rich environment
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with multiple deadlines
Ability to work flexible hours needed including nights, weekends, and
Jewish holidays
Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team - Prior
experience working with college students, with informal/experiential
education
Salary Range:
$45,000 - $45,000. Housing is also provided.
