Description
The New England College of Optometry (NECO) prepares the next generation of
eye care providers, educators, and innovators through a rigorous curriculum
and extensive clinical experience. Located in the heart of Boston, NECO is a
small, independent graduate institution that currently enrolls students from
34 states and 8 countries.
The Benefits and HRIS Specialist reports to the Executive Director of Human
Resources and is responsible for a range of hands-on duties within the
4-person HR department at NECO. This is an exempt, 35-hour per week position.
Primarily, this position is our in-house HRIS and benefits resource.
NECO offers medical, dental, and vision plans, life insurance, STD/LTD,
FMLA/MPFML, retirement, and other varied benefits.
This position requires technical knowledge in order to maintain and update our
HRIS benefits platform and feeds on Paylocity for employees. This position
will also assist employees with completing the self-service enrollment process
for benefits onboarding and may also be involved in rollouts of other modules
of our HRIS as needed. This position requires constant communication with our
benefits broker and benefits vendor representatives.
Duties Include:
Educating employees on all benefits available to them, on leave of absence
processes, and with other HR related issues
Conduct new hire benefits onboarding and assist with enrolling employees
into benefit selections and with leave applications
Audit benefits and payroll reports to ensure benefits are accurately
deducted
Resolve benefits, billing, and leave issues with vendors and/or our
benefits brokers
Set-up, manage, and troubleshoot data feeds to brokers and vendors
Complete benefits reporting and audits
Communicate with managers and employees regularly
Ensure benefits and leave policies are compliant with federal and state
regulations
Conduct annual open enrollment process to ensure employees are properly
signed up for benefits for the new plan year
Run established reports and create new ad-hoc reports as required
May be required to post jobs, screen applicants, and support hiring
managers throughout the selection and onboarding process via the use of
the HR/Payroll software
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 4-5 years of experience in benefits administration
and some experience in recruitment and onboarding of new hires
Proficient knowledge of state and federal regulatory laws pertaining to
benefits and employment OR Certification in Human Resources
Solid knowledge of enrollment processes of health, dental, life, optional
life, LTD, and STD, and others
Minimum 1-2 years' experience with on-line benefits open enrollment
process for employees and related data feeds
A working knowledge of HRIS/payroll systems and benefits administration
Experience working with benefits brokers on annual benefits renewal
process
Prior work in higher education or healthcare strongly preferred
Excellent communication skills
Must work exceptionally well as part of a small HR team
This position offers hybrid work at home/in office hours after
satisfactory completion of training.
