Position Title Behavior Support Specialist Classification Title MURC-Counselors Department Autism Training - RC2310 Job Description

The School-wide Behavior Support Specialist is a non-classified position funded through the West Virginia Department of Education's Office of Special Education and is housed at the Autism Training Center at Marshall University. This position serves the Eastern Panhandle region of West Virginia and includes the following counties: Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, Mineral, Grant, Hardy, and Pendleton. The applicant is expected to live in or within 20 miles of the region.

The Behavior Support Specialist will: • Lead an inter-agency effort focused on infrastructure development within West Virginia's education system necessary for the effective implementation of a system-wide delivery of behavior and mental health intervention and supports; • Provide school personnel training, support, and coaching in topics related to a multi-tiered system of behavior and mental health support; • Collaborate with WVDE to design, coordinate, and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators in the topics of positive behavior interventions and supports, school-based mental health, and classroom management procedures; • Oversee the design and implementation of multi-tiered support plans with autism and other behavior or mental health challenges; • Maintain collaborative relationships with school- and community-based mental health providers to facilitate school based mental health services for students; • Assist and coach SAT teams in specifically assigned regions; • Train, support, and coach school personnel in the development and use of Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans; • Complete assessments of current levels of functioning of individuals with autism and other behavior or mental health challenges • Provide support and coaching to regional teams on capturing, tracking, and interpreting fidelity and outcome data. • Maintain records of all technical assistance provided. • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Associate Director, or Director of Technical Assistance

Supervision: The Behavior Support Specialist will be supervised by the WV Behavior and Mental Health Technical Assistance Center (WVBMHTAC). Although employed by the WV ATC the WVBMHTAC Director will work collaboratively with the SEA Project Coordinator and Co-Coordinator.

This position will be located in the Eastern Panhandle.

Location OTHR - Other Off-Campus Location Salary Range $56,270.24

Required Qualifications

Education

The Behavior Support Specialist will hold a Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, education, or an academic field related to understanding and providing behavioral supports to school-aged children.

Experience

The successful candidate will have extensive experience leading and facilitating interdisciplinary teams, demonstrate the ability to carry out goal-directed work duties, and be available for the state-wide travel necessary to carry out duties specific to this project.
