Bakery Innovation Technologist– Healthier alternatives (KTP Associate) based in Barnsley

College of Business, Tech. & Engineering Other £28,000 to £32,500 per annum, dependent on experience (fixed term until 30/09/2024)

If you are a graduate who is looking to pursue a career in food innovation and would like to be part of a team who is passionate about providing healthier baked snack alternatives, then this opportunity could be perfect for you.

Knowledge Transfer Partnership 1 (KTP) is one of the UK's largest graduate recruitment schemes.

This position offers a talented food scientist with a passion for healthy food product development the opportunity to work with Whites Bakery Ltd, a premier bakery in Barnsley who specialises in school compliant home baked goods. Working as part of a team of highly driven staff this role will be integral to ensuring the successful reformulation of the sweet baked snacks that are supplied to schools. It will involve the use of innovative ingredients and processes to reduce the sugar, fat and salt content of these popular snacks. To successfully deliver the project you will take the lead on ingredient selection, product reformulation, process implementation, sensory evaluation and consumer research.

This KTP role sits at the interface of R&D and food product development. You will work in collaboration with academics from Sheffield Hallam University, the directors at Whites Bakery and their operational teams to deliver a project that will have significant positive impact on the business as well as providing healthier snack alternatives for school children. To support you delivering on this ambitious agenda, training will be provided including external professional development opportunities where appropriate.

The role requires either an Undergraduate or Master's degree in a food science related subject (such as food and nutrition, food product development, food technology, food manufacturing or processing). It is essential that candidates have covered the principles of food product development as part of their degree within a practical setting. Work experience within the field of recipe reformulation is desirable. You will ideally be an innovative problem solver with the potential to establish a leading role in the company. An interest in baked products or bakery experience would be an advantage but not essential.
