A position is open for a Research Fellowship in the context of the research unit "Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and NanoFabrication"/FCT NOVA, (I3N - UIDB/50025/2020-2023) and financed by national funds in the FCT budget.
Scientific field: Materials Engineering and related areas.
Admission requirements: Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Materials Engineering and related areas, be enrolled in a doctoral program or a non-degree program. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in Materials Engineering and research experience in the specific scientific area of the work plan.
Candidates who have obtained the degree abroad must have the degree recognised in Portugal, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August.
- Task 1. Rheological characterization of photoreological fluids,
- Task 2. Characterization of a lyotropic liquid crystal: X-ray, DSC, Polarized light microscopy, rheological characterization,
- Task 3. Crystalline liquid colloidal aqueous suspensions of cellulose nanocrystals.
The fellow's work will begin with the first two tasks that are already underway, as part of a project, for which a fellow was hired until the end of June 2022 (end of the project), but it was not possible to finish the analyses that were hampered by equipment problems.
In a second phase, she will devote herself to the 3rd task, which could become the first part of a doctoral thesis, if she gets a research grant for this purpose, and so desires. The work to be done under Task 3 involves the knowledge acquired in Tasks 1 and 2. Nanocrystalline cellulose rods will be isolated from wet Pinus pinea and Salix salicaeceeae pulps. From the obtained rods, liquid crystalline suspensions will be prepared and characterized

Workplace: The work will be developed at CENIMATi3N, under the scientific supervision of Professor Maria Helena Godinho and Professor Maria Teresa Cidade.
Duration of the fellowship(s): The fellowship will last for 12 months, starting in early octuber 2022. The fellowship contract may eventually be renewed within the term of the project.
Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 1144,64, according to the stock chart of the exchanges awarded directly by FCT, I.P. https: // www. fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/TabeladeValoresSMM2022.pdf, payment being made monthly by bank transfer.
Selection methods: The selection of candidates will be made by the jury, based on the analysis of the Curriculum Vitae and its suitability for the proposed tasks. The evaluation of the candidate will take into account the merit of the candidate, considering the parameters of academic background (40%), curriculum evaluation appreciating (20%) relevant experience within the scope of the workplan (30%) and the interview (10%). If the jury chooses not to interview the candidates, the curriculum evaluation will correspond to 100% of the candidate evaluation.

Notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for submission of applications, by e-mail, of the results proposed by the jury, having access to the minutes. After notification, applicants will have 10 working days to decide on the decision, at a prior hearing of interested parties, in accordance with the Code of Administrative Procedure. The final decision shall be taken after the previous hearing period, again notified to all applicants by e-mail.
