Position Summary

The AVS Lab Research Assistant will manage various research projects and deliverables within the Autonomous Vehicle Systems (AVS) Research Laboratories.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Description of Job Duties

Main functions of this position include:

1. Working with other staff to plan and coordinate research. 2. Cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring proper use of facilities and equipment. 3. Recordkeeping/data entry for research projects. 4. Tracking grant deliverables. 6. Preparing grant and funding proposals. 7. Preparing research papers, posters, and presentations for conferences. 8. Performing other duties assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and shift priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Required Education

    Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM field or closely related field.

    Required Work Experience

    One-year research experience working in a laboratory.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Previous experience working as a mentor or leadership role.

    Work Hours

    29 hours max per week. Hours are flexible based on current projects. Ability to work after-hours and on weekends.

    Physical Demands

    Ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds as needed.
